Padmshri Dr. Ram Dayal Munda
Born in the year 2011, Rumbul is an Indigenous youth group based in Jharkhand, India; who are dedicated to safeguarding and revitalizing the rich tapestry of tribal languages, culture, and music. Jharkhand is a state born out of the struggle for recognition and preservation of tribal identity and rights, very recently in the year 2000.
Rumbul is a Mundari word which means ‘an echo’. The echoes of our ancestors' wisdom guide us, and the ancestral rhythms pulse within our veins. We recognise that language is more than just a means of communication; it is the vessel through which stories are told, traditions are passed down, and the very essence of a culture is preserved.
Language, culture, and music are inextricably intertwined, forming the backbone of their identity as Indigenous peoples. Through our efforts, we seek to ensure that these invaluable threads continue to weave the vibrant tapestry of their existence.
As we navigate the delicate balance between preserving the wisdom of our ancestors and embracing the possibilities of the future. Our journey is a testament to the enduring power of culture and the unbreakable bond between generations. Together, our efforts stand as torchbearers of tradition, illuminating the path towards a brighter, culturally enriched and sustainable future.

Rumbul's mission is to safeguard and rejuvenate the cultural treasures embedded in our tribal roots while promoting sustainability and climate action as integral components of our Indigenous identity.
We envision a world where Indigenous languages thrive, our cultural traditions flourish, and our ancestral music resonates through time. In this vision, we see sustainability and climate action as inherent to our cultural stewardship, aligning harmoniously with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). We aim to be leaders in promoting environmental consciousness within Indigenous communities, contributing to a global movement for a more sustainable and equitable future.
The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs), a set of 17 interconnected goals adopted by the international community, aim to address some of the most pressing global challenges, including poverty, inequality, climate change, and environmental degradation.
The connection between Indigenous communities and the UN SDGs represents a powerful alliance at the intersection of culture, environment, and social progress. Indigenous communities, with their rich cultural traditions and ancestral knowledge, have a profound role to play in advancing the global agenda of sustainable development.

We also lobby at policy level for the formulation of pro-tribals policies with regards to their language and culture.
Our team is working on the revival and promotion of Sukaan Buru festival and other important Indigenous festivals. Organizing capacity building workshops and cultural sensitization sessions for youth so that they lead local cultural revival initiatives in their own areas.
Our team operates 29 Mundari Music Learning Centres where youngsters come to learn about Indigenous music and dance. The youngsters also get a chance to perform and represent their culture in various renowned cultural events across the country. This boosts their confidence. which reflects in other aspects of their life.
Our team also creates audio video materials for the promotion of Indigenous culture. We have documentaries and podcasts highlighting the pressing concerns of the Indigenous community. We are also actively working to create a digital archive of our Indigenous peoples so our future generations can learn from them.
RUMBUL actively collaborates with like-minded organizations and individuals who share our vision and values. Our partnerships are a cornerstone of our mission to preserve Indigenous culture and promote sustainability.
By working together with organizations and individuals who share our passion and dedication, we can make a more significant impact on the preservation of Indigenous culture and the promotion of sustainable practices.
